Mission Statement
Anchored in the Anabaptist tradition, UMEI Christian High School exists to educate the whole person, cultivating full academic, spiritual and individual potential, in order to make young people “doers of the word” in the community.
UMEI offers an innovative 4-year program geared towards students interested in math, science, and technology. This program strives to engage enthusiastic learners, emphasizing robotics. The hands-on style works to engage students, promoting critical thinking, logical interpretation, and advancement of practical skills needed to pursue careers in automation, manufacturing, technology, skilled trades, and engieneering.

FIRST Robotics is a competitive and challenging opportunity for students to get creative and put their minds together to do something amazing. Each year a new challenge is released worldwide and students all around the world are working to design their best robot to complete the same challenges. At UMEI, any student has the opportunity to join the team and contribute their own ideas and expertise, whether it be programing, building, finance, business skills, or public relations. There is a way for every student to get involved and all are included and can contribute their ideas.

“No matter what happens in the end, it is the skills and opportunities brought forward that are what really makes the difference. When all is said and done the change made is the knowledge and experience gained.”

Over the past two years of high school, I’ve discovered both my strengths and what I truly enjoy. In Grades 9 and 10, I joined the robotics class, where I learned to program, build, and solve problems through the EV3 Lego robots program. This experience sparked my passion for robotics. Now, as a Grade 11 student, I’m part of UMEI’s FTC team, The Thunderbirds (19530), and I’ve also joined the FRC team for a second year. These opportunities have allowed me to further explore and develop my skills in robotics.
Through this program, I’ve gained valuable technical and problem-solving skills that I never imagined myself interested in two years ago. I’ve also learned the importance of teamwork and communication through collaboration with my peers. UMEI’s robotics program not only builds technical abilities but also fosters friendships, personal growth, and the discovery of one’s true passions.
